Bermondsey Video

Updated: Mar 20, 2019

Our final task was to film and edit a four-minute video to show the raw qualities of the area in a way that locals could relate to – similar to the relatability of Nike’s LDNR campaign. Our idea was to show Bermondsey from the perspective of someone finding it for the first time, to display how hidden it was. Using our personal experience on visiting Bermondsey such as mine, I have always travelled on the train over Bermondsey and not really known what was in the area even though it is so close to London Bridge, we really had to search to find the hidden treasures of the area.

For our video we wanted to highlight. We debated how how we can highlight our hidden insight through promoting the area and create a storyboard to follow. We chose to show the hidden spots in Bermondsey by highlighting the long train line that travels into Central London above the arches in Bermondsey, that people are travelling over and missing all these cool spots and we finished with a rewind in the video to highlight how everything in Bermondsey restarts, it starts of slow and quiet and slowly builds up as the week goes on, on to a fun and lively weekend, then goes back to being slow and people passing by again. The audio we used was King Krule - Biscuit Town, we chose this audio because King Krule is from and made this song about Bermondsey, we also did not highlight the Biscuit factory in our video, to keep the concept of "There is more to Bermondsey than the eye can see", as it has a rich history that has shaped how Bermondsey is today. We chose to film with phones so we can give a feeling and perspective of people videoing new cool places they have found, as that is how we felt.

In hindsight I would have like to have taken the role of being more firm within the group designating jobs to people, I tried to organise work flow through online platforms, but ended up taking the brunt of the work in creating the presentations and piecing everyone's work together. Overall I enjoyed the group work and the video was a massive contribution from everyone in the group and i think it highlighted our insight well.

As a group we presented our video to Visit Britain and received some helpful feedback upon moving forward with our idea, we had positive feedback with our style of video, that it captured our insight well, but was told that our video could highlight the places more with either location pins or hashtags. We then broke down our video to 1 minute 30 seconds to be presented again and received positive feedback upon expanding on the comments from the last presentation.
